The BRIGANCE Screens Part of the Developmental and Behavioral Screening Strategy

What is it?

The BRIGANCE Screen III is a developmental screener that identifies developmental problems such as language impairments, learning disabilities, or cognitive delays in children from birth through first grade. Screen III is used to evaluate school readiness, guide instructional planning, and identify developmental delays or advanced development as early as possible. The Screens include three screeners, each for a different age group. For infants and toddlers, the domains include physical development, language development, and adaptive behavior. For children two years and older, the domains include physical development, language development, academic skills, and cognitive development. Screening can be administered and scored in approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

What is the evidence base?

The BRIGANCE Screens III has high reliability, internal consistency, sensitivity, specificity, and test-retest and inter-rater reliability.
