Third Grade TCAP: ELA and Math

Gateway to future learning and life success

TQEE’s north star is 3rd grade reading (English Language Arts) and math proficiency. That’s because it’s a well-documented and crucial benchmark for future academic and life success. Children who are not proficient in reading and math by the end of third grade are more likely to experience compounding difficulties in later grades, making it increasingly challenging to catch up.

With nearly 60% of our third-graders below proficiency in grade-level reading (ELA) and math, Tennessee is struggling with a significant education crisis. While the numbers are encouragingly going the right direction, we’ve got a long way to go.

Tackling this challenge begins with exploring the data across the state and in our local school districts. Below you’ll find a dashboard with the latest third grade Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) scores searchable by school district.

A Call to Action for Tennessee

The urgency is evident in third grade TCAP scores. The solution is to invest in the early years, birth through third grade. Now is the time for action. We call on parents, business leaders, legislators, and all Tennesseans to prioritize policies and practices that support the growth and development of our youngest learners.

By investing in our young children and families, we can best assure a thriving Tennessee.  So be a loud voice for little kids!
