What is it?
The Companion Curriculum (TCC) is an intervention that is designed to bring teachers and parents together to enhance home-based learning for Head Start children. TCC provides monthly teacher-led workshops that involve opportunities for parents to observe teacher demonstrations of early learning activities and practice the activities with their children. Each session involves teachers and small groups of eight to 10 parents. Community research coordinators help remove barriers such as transportation issues to maximize parent participation in the program.
What is the evidence base?
Parents who participate in TCC increase parent-child reading frequency. Children increase vocabulary knowledge, social-emotional skills, and literacy and math competencies.
