What is it?
Legacy for Children (Legacy) is a group-based intervention program for limited-resource mothers. The purpose of Legacy is to provide mothers with the support they need to help their children grow up emotionally healthy and be productive members of society. Legacy’s activities are designed to foster sensitive and responsive parenting, strengthen parent-child relationships, and promote a sense of community. Through regular group meetings of mothers, intervention specialists assist mothers in identifying and practicing ways to provide safe, consistent, and responsive environments for their children.
What is the evidence base?
Children that participate in Legacy are at lower risk of behavioral problems, social-emotional problems, and hyperactive behavior. Children also show higher IQ and achievement scores. Legacy can prevent cognitive delays among children living in poverty.
