Behavioral, Emotional, and Social Training: Competent Learners Achieving School Success (BEST in CLASS)

What is it?

Behavioral, Emotional, and Social Training: Competent Learners Achieving School Success (BEST in CLASS) is a classroom-based intervention program designed to prevent emotional and behavioral disorders (EBDs). BEST in CLASS trains teachers to use teaching strategies that reduce chronic problem behaviors and improve relationships between teachers and children at-risk for EBDs in early childhood programs. The program consists of three components: a workshop, a teacher manual, and practice-based coaching.

What is the evidence base?

Teachers who participate in BEST in CLASS show significant improvements in providing corrective feedback and positive student-teacher interactions. Children in BEST in CLASS interventions demonstrate fewer disruptive behaviors, improvements in social skills, and lower levels of internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors.
