Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Program

What is it?

The Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Program is a comprehensive and culturally relevant training program developed by and for Latino parents of children ages birth through five. The goal of the program is to increase parents’ confidence through positive parenting practices and enhance Latino preschool children’s learning and preparation for school. The program is conducted through 10 interactive group sessions within parents’ local communities.

What is the evidence base?

Parents who participate in the program increase the use of home educational activities, improve goal setting and organizational skills, become stronger advocates for their children, and gain an appreciation for their position as role models. Children demonstrate improvements in academic achievement and live healthier lifestyles.
